Jim is the owner of three clubs, including the Newtown Athletic Club, Healthquest of Hunterdon, and Horsham Athletic Club. He has been involved in the industry for 36 years, growing Newtown from a 15,000-square-foot racquet club on three acres to a 250,000-square-foot health, wellness, and recreation complex on 22 acres. Jim is a long-time supporter of IHRSA’s Industry Leadership Council (ILC) and IHRSA educational events. Jim is a strong believer in giving back to the community he serves and has strong ties with local charities, non-profits, government, and fellow clubs.

Philipp Roesch-Schlanderer CEO & Founder eGym
Philipp was an unsuccessful gym goer and decided to found eGym in 2010 with the vision to make the gym work for everyone. Prior, he studied Business and Technology Management at Columbia University in New York. eGym combines latest machine technology, powered by German engineering, with the advantages of connected mobile applications to deliver intuitive and effective workouts with more fun and data-driven member support. In only a few years of strong growth, eGym developed to one of the major players in the European fitness market, implementing its technology at leading fitness chains and franchises. Overall, eGym raised over $60 million in venture capital from large investors and is now entering the US market.
Raj Sareen Chief Executive Officer Styku
Raj is an entrepreneur, scientist, and inventor who currently leads a fast-growing wellness technology start-up Styku. With a BS in Space Sciences, and an MS in Physics, Raj spent much of his academic career focused on learning about the physical world we live in and the universe above. His journey included stints at NASA, where he spent time working in the shuttle program, and later the astrobiology institute for the study of biomarkers. Driven by the possibility of discovering life elsewhere, Raj eventually settled as a research scientist at the California and Carnegie Planet Search lab, where he spent several years in post-grad researching extra-solar planets around other stars. Having come from a family of entrepreneurs, Raj fosters a deep desire to build innovative technology that can help further understanding of the world. Raj made a career change and joined his family’s software business, where he would discover a need for innovation in computer vision of the human form. Having gained valuable skills in imaging and sensing technologies, Raj would turn his attention from studying celestial bodies to studying human bodies, by inventing several pioneering 3D imaging systems for lifestyle businesses. Today, he finds himself fortunate in building markets for body scanners for lifestyle purposes, such as fitness, health assessment, and shopping. Raj has been a guest lecturer on several occasions for a technology course at Harvard Business School and is a graduate of the prestigious Techstars Accelerator. Raj lives in Rolling Hills, CA with his wife, daughter, and dog Skywalker.
Robert Sprechman is Chief Financial Officer of RetroFitness. Mr. Sprechman was selected by the CEO and private equity partners to set up and run the start-up health club franchise that has grown to over 150 locations. Mr. Sprechman managed RetroFitness through torrid growth, increasing revenues 300%-system wide to $150M and 500 times EBITDA. Prior to joining RetroFitness, Mr. Sprechman held a number of senior executive roles including growing a consumer retail franchise operation to 32 locations in a span of two-years and as CFO and COO for a recycled retail and wholesale clothing and apparel redistribution. Mr. Sprechman has reimagined and reshaped the finance function using advanced new technology to improve operations, financial efficiencies as well as sales and marketing. Mr. Sprechman is a results-driven, hands-on senior executive with strong skills in strategic planning, creating and operationalizing business process, financial planning, analysis, systems, accounting, back office operations, and administration. Mr. Sprechman is an alumnus of Lehigh University.
